About erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to get or keep an erection that is firm enough for sex.

What causes ED?

There are many common causes of erectile dysfunction, including psychological factors like depression, stress or anxiety, physical factors like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension or renal disease, and lifestyle factors like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and obesity. Medications such as antidepressants and blood pressure drugs can also be a causal factor.

What are the symptoms?

The most common symptoms of ED include: difficulty getting an erection, softer erections and erections that cannot be maintained.

It is often confused with premature ejaculation, which is a type of sexual dysfunction where men are unable to delay or control ejaculation.

Can ED be treated?

Yes, there are several options for treating ED from addressing lifestyle and psychological issues to prescription medications. Before starting any kind of treatment, it’s important to be evaluated by a healthcare professional to understand the underlying causes.

ED affects about 40% of Australian men. [¹]

FAQ

What are my ED treatment options?

There are proven ED medications that can be prescribed to help treat ED. These treatments belong to a class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors which increase blood flow to the penis by interfering with the breakdown of chemicals needed to maintain an erection. This interference results in more of these chemicals staying in action for longer, improving the ability to get and maintain an erection. PDE5 inhibitors have been shown to be safe and work well. In addition, you can consider addressing and treating any underlying causes.

What ED medications do Rosemary doctors prescribe?

Unfortunately due to Australian law we aren't allowed to list specific medication names until you have been assessed by a doctor. All of the prescription ED treatments available through Rosemary are proven and safe to use. Your doctor will prescribe you a personalised treatment plan based on your medical history, symptoms and needs.

If you have been prescribed before, you can check to see if we carry your ED treatment here.

How much does ED treatment cost with Rosemary?

The one-time doctor consultation fee is $20 and ED treatment starts from as low as $4 per use. Your personalised treatment plan comes with unlimited follow ups and messaging with the doctor. If the doctor decides it is not medically appropriate to prescribe ED treatment for you, your $20 consultation fee is refunded.

What are the side effects?

Common side effects of PDE5 drugs include flushing, a blue tinge to vision, blurred vision, light sensitivity, dizziness, headaches, runny nose, nasal congestion, abdominal discomfort or indigestion, diarrhoea, rash or muscle aches.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, please stop use immediately and call 000:
Chest pain, shortness of breath, prolonged erection with pain, vision or hearing loss, seizure activity.

Will the medication increase my sex drive?

No, ED drugs do not increase sex drive or libido. You still need to be sexually aroused in order for these medications to help you get and maintain an erection.

Who can be prescribed ED treatment through Rosemary?

Australian men 18 and older experiencing impotence can seek treatment with Rosemary. Your doctor will review your assessment and decide if it's medically safe and appropriate to prescribe you a treatment plan.

Men who have a history of heart disease, stroke, vision loss, liver disease, kidney disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure or very low blood pressure cannot be prescribed oral ED medication because the way these ED pills work is by relaxing the muscles in the penis to redirect blood flow for an erection to be attained. This may redirect blood flow away from other organs such as the heart, brain or kidneys, which could be dangerous if you have a history of the above conditions.

Men who are on nitrites also cannot be prescribed oral ED treatment as taking nitrites and PDE5 drugs at the same time can be fatal. Both drugs reduce your blood pressure, and redirecting blood flow away from your heart can cause a heart attack and be life-threatening.
